MANILA, March 22, 2013— The country’s top churchman called on the faithful to observe the Holy Week as an important season to ‘journey with the poor’.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle said that the faithful can show the love of Christ in practical ways such is helping other people especially the needy.

“We hope, especially this Holy Week may really be a journey of faith with Jesus, Cardinal Tagle said. “It’s really faith that will enable us to journey with Jesus who suffered out of love for us.”

“And in journeying with Jesus, hopefully we can journey with one another especially those who are suffering and bring them love too,” he said.

But the church official affirmed that journeying in faith is challenging task, adding that “it is not easy to walk with Jesus who will die on the Cross”.

“Even in ordinary situations when you know that your companion will be in danger, we go our separate ways,” he said.

Tagle just arrived in Manila in yesterday after attending the conclave and inauguration Mass of Pope Francis in Rome.

On March 24, the cardinal will lead the celebration of Palm Sunday at the San Fernando De Dilao Parish Church in Paco, Manila.

Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week with Catholics buying palms and having them blessed by priests during Mass.

It recalls the arrival of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem, where a big crowd waving palm branches welcomed Him. (CBCPNews)
