Cardinal challenges corrupt pols to undergo conversion

MANILA, Oct. 2, 2013— Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle of Manila challenged government leaders involved in anomalies to undergo their own conversion and renewal.

With all the controversies hounding the government right now, he said it is high time for corrupt politicians to have sincere desire to conversion.

“There is corruption everywhere. If proven, there should be conversion from those who committed it,” Tagle said over Radio Veritas.

The message is the cardinal’s statement against corruption amid the alleged misuse of multi-billion peso Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) involving some congressmen and senators.

The cardinal earlier said that the pork barrel scam was a form of injustice, saying “instead of giving what is due to others and to the country, resources are being denied from them”.

“We do not only lack love for others, but we also lack a sense of justice,” he said during the Caritas Manila’s Generosity Conference on Sunday.

Last month, Tagle also broke into tears as he joined calls for a probe into the alleged misuse of the PDAF funds that were channeled to fake non-government organizations and ghost projects.

He also called on government leaders involved in the “intricate web” of corruption to visit the poor and slum areas for them to realize how the pork barrel funds should be spent correctly. (CBCPNews)
