Archbishop Rolando Tirona
MANILA, Nov. 8, 2012— Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese of Caceres will witness the installation of its new archbishop on November 14.
Archbishop-elect Rolando Tirona, 66, will officially be installed during a 10 a.m. Mass at the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral to be presided by Papal nuncio Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto.
Tirona is expected to arrive in Naga City on Nov. 13 via a convoy from his previous assignment in the Prelature of Infanta, in Quezon province.
Upon his arrival at the boundary of the Naga and Milaor, he will be welcomed by a motorcade that will take him to the Holy Cross Parish in Tabuco for a liturgical reception.
After which, Tirona will be taken to the Basilica Minore de Peñafrancia at around 3 p.m. to give reverence to the spiritual “Mother of Bicolanos,” Our Lady of Peñafrancia.
A civic reception for the new archbishop will also be held at the Plaza Quezon at around 5 p.m.
Several officials and members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) are expected to attend Tirona’s installation as the 34th bishop and/or 4th archbishop of Caceres.
Pope Benedict XVI appointed Tirona, a Carmelite missionary, as the successor of Caceres Archbishop Emeritus Leonardo Legaspi last September.
The archbishop-elect was born on July 22, 1946 in Kawit, Cavite.
He was ordained to the priesthood in April 21, 1974 and entered the episcopacy in November 1994 when he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Manila.
In 1996, he was appointed Bishop of Malolos and stayed there for around six years, in 2003 before he was transferred to the Prelature of Infanta in 2003.
The suffragans of the Archdiocese of Caceres include the Dioceses of Legazpi, Sorsogon, Masbate, Daet, Virac and Libmanan. (CBCPNews)
