CABANATUAN City, Feb. 21, 2012—Some members of the Commission on Youth of the diocese of Cabanatuan joined the 22nd Trek to Taklang Damulag organized by the Knights of Columbus and the Columbian Squires last February 15-16 in Nueva Ecija.

Joannie Bolisay, the diocesan youth coordinator said it was their first time to join the trek and they enjoyed it.

“We were happy and it was exciting. Even if it was our first time and we felt tired, the trek was the right event to celebrate the season of Lent which is a time for prayer, sacrifice and abstinence,” Bolisay said.

In his homily, Fr. Ordand Valino, parish priest of the Holy Cross emphasized the importance of time and self discipline in life.

He also said the essence of the activity pointed out the participants’ ability even for a short while, to leave behind their pre-occupations and dependence on technology such as the internet, television, and the like.

Valino also stressed that the trek was one way to celebrate the Lenten season by sacrificing and praying like what Jesus Christ did during his ministry.

During the two-day event, the participants toured the Ninoy Aquino and Diokno Shrine, had a recollection and fellowship program, a Mass, and a boodle fight.

The event, themed “In Communion with God and Nature and Walk for Life,” was held in cooperation with the 7th Infantry Division and SOCOM of the Philippine Army. (Jandel Posion)
