BORONGAN City, November 4, 2012— For the second time in the history of the Diocese of Borongan, an estimated 2,000 participants attended this year’s Diocesan Youth and Vocation Jamboree.
Held at the Filature Building of the Eastern Samar State University last Oct. 29 to 30, the participants were priests, religious, seminarians and youth from different parishes.
Borongan Bishop Crispin Varquez said that the fundamental vocation of every human being is to love and share God’s love as well.
“To be in love is a very powerful experience,” Varquez said.
According to him, when one is in love, “he shares stories… because [Jesus] loves us, He tells His stories to us.”
He also said that when one is in love, “he shares food and drink.” He, then, referred to the Holy Eucharist where God tells His stories and shares His Body and Blood to us.
The bishop also cited Saint Pedro Calungsod as an example of “one who is in love with God.”
“And because of this love for God, He was able to offer his life until the end,” said Varquez.
The diocese’s first vocation jamboree was held in 2011 and this year’s experience of prayer and sharing took place along with the diocesan youth jamboree
Activities of the occasion include group sharing, living rosary, candle lighting and praise and worship jam. A video documentary about the life of Calungsod was also shown.
“The jamboree was able to ignite in me that desire to be in love with Jesus and to share Him in every person I encounter just like what St. Pedro [Calungsod] did,” said Matthew Mosquisa, a 4th year student at the Seminario de Jesus Nazareno.
“I also learned that despite our young age, we can still do something to answer God’s call of loving and serving one another,” he further said. (Roel Joe E. Abonal)
