MANILA, Feb. 3, 2011—A Catholic bishop called on the public to rally behind former military budget officer George Rabusa, who revealed massive corruption in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz said it’s a moral obligation to support someone who seeks reform not just in the AFP but for the entire government.
“I think he is honest. What he is doing is not easy. You don’t fight the giants. That is why support should be given to him,†said Cruz.
“The fellow needs all the support he can get, especially support from common people who knows what is right and wrong,†he added.
Rabusa earlier accused former AFP chiefs Angelo Reyes, Roy Cimatu, and Diomedio Villanueva of receiving millions of “send-off money†when they retired from the military.
Reyes responded by filing criminal charges before the Office of the Ombudsman against Rabusa and Sen. Jinggoy Estrada for allegedly destroying his reputation through false testimony before a Senate inquiry.
On the other hand, Cruz said he understands Reyes in making such moves.
“I understand that move of his more than he would not… He is entitled to that,†said Cruz. (CBCPNews)
