Bishop says Pacquiao building dynasty

MANILA, Oct. 3, 2012— With three Pacquiaos joining next year’s elections, a Catholic bishop appears unimpressed.

Marbel Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez said when one family tries to dominate top government posts in one particular region it means building a dynasty.

Boxing superstar turned Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao is seeking reelection for his province’s lone congressional district while his wife, Jinkee, is running for vice governor of the province.

The lawmaker’s younger brother, Roel, also wants to become a congressman of neighboring South Cotabato.

As to how Pacquiao performed in his first term as solon, Gutierrez refused to give a straight answer, instead described the 33-year-old lawmaker as someone who “is always out.

“How many bills has he authored? (But) he is generous (and) some have taken advantage (of him),” said Gutierrez.

The bishop added that the Pacquiaos would be an addition to the list of political dynasties in the province including the Chiongbians, Antoninos and Constantinos.

“Dynasty law is a big joke- to humor activists, after Edsa 1. No IRR (Implementing Rules and Regulation).” Gutierrez said.  [RL/CBCPNews]
