MANILA, May 8, 2013—Days before the May 13 election, a member of a lay group that promotes election catechism challenged young people who comprised the majority of voting population to be agents of change.
In a Church forum yesterday, Ms. Linda Valenzona of the Catholic Vote Philippines (CVP) stressed that young people should use their knowledge of technology to help other electorates as some of the voters are not that knowledgeable in using the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine.
“As majority of the voters for this coming election are from the youth sector, they should also help in monitoring anomalies on the voting day and use their gadgets well by reporting certain anomalies like social networking sites, etc.,” Valenzona said.
Valenzona is one among many Filipinos who are worried about possible cheating tactics that may happen during Election Day.
Assuming for potential cheating this coming Monday, she urged young people who are more knowledgeable in using gadgets and technology to educate the uneducated and to act as watch dogs by generating awareness through social networks for this purpose alone.
Election stakeholders are worried about the credibility of Monday polls due to the late release of the source code which holds no more time for scrutiny by election parties and the illiteracy of some voters who will be clueless before, during and after casting their votes.
