BACOLOD City, June 17, 2013—The Diocese of Bacolod held its first annual Diocesan Bible Conference to develop among the faithful a deeper appreciation of the Sacred Scriptures and to vitalize Bible Faith Sharing among Catholics in the Diocese.

Held in two separate dates and venues, the first conference held on May 31 at the St. John Vianney Hall was attended by around 120 participants from religious congregations, religion teachers and parish lectors and commentators.

On June 1, another conference was given at the St. Pio Hall in Sacred Heart Seminary attended by 132 participants.

This year the conference dwelt with the study of the New Testament focusing on the topic “Discipleship in the Gospel of St. John”.

The Annual Bible Conference will alternately feature the study of the Old and New Testaments.

Resource speaker for this year was Sr. Niceta Vargas O.S.A, a scholar of Johannine Literature, with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Religious Studies/ New Testament from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.

Rev. Fr. Deogracias Aurelio Camon, Director of the Diocesan Biblical Commission, presented some themes from the Dei Verbum emphasizing that Bible Studies groups and sessions should be founded on the Catechism of the Catholic Church since Scripture and Tradition enrich each other.

With its quarterly  meeting set on September this year, the Biblical Commission is also geared to launch the “Bible Faith Sharing Guide” that can be used as a personal guide for Bible Studies/Faith Sharing in homes and Basic Ecclesial Community. (ADSUM)
