DSC_2873 webMANILA, July 18, 2013— Archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen-Dagupan has advised the faithful to cultivate the habit of praying for government officials.

The current vice president and incoming president of the Catholic bishops’ leadership said Filipinos should endeavor to pray for their leaders.

“Even though there are no controversies, we should pray for our government officials because of the heavy responsibility they bear for the country,” Villegas said over Radio Veritas Thursday.

Amid the many challenges facing the nation, he said it would be better if Filipinos will pray for their leaders that they may have the wisdom to serve the society.

According to him, the public should not wait for controversies to hound the President, senators, congressmen, justices and local officials before they call for divine intervention.

“Let’s not wait for controversies anymore but rather let us make it part of our daily habit to pray for our public servants,” said Villegas, who is the current CBCP vice president. (CBCPNews)
