MANILA, Sept. 12, 2013— A Mass will be held in Manila on Friday to push for the ferreting out of the truth in the multi-billion-peso pork barrel fund scam.

Organized by the Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines, it will be held at the San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila at 2pm.

The AMRSP has invited all the religious congregations and sectors to attend the gathering with the theme “Raising our Prophetic Voice in the Pursuit for Truth, Accountability and Good Governance.”

“In all that is going on, our prophetic responsibility compel all of us to make our voice be heard by all concerns. We cannot be idle with what are happening around us,” the AMRSP said.

The activity on Sept. 13 is one of the many activities lined-up by many groups including the religious sector to pressure the government to heed the calls for the total abolition of the pork barrel.

“The issue on truth and corruption is one of the many concerns that we have to give our attention too,” it said

The AMRSP lamented how the government is handling the pork barrel scam allegedly involving businesswoman Janet Napoles and several senators and congressmen.

“Until now, nothing happens to the Napoles scam, no case has been filed, no members of the Congress were charged,” the group also said.

“This is our follow up activity to the Million People March in Luneta. We need to be vigilant! We have to let our prophetic voice be heard for the transformation of our society. This is an opportunity that as religious, we can gather in prayer for our country,” it added.

After the Mass, members of the AMRSP and other churchgoers will march in procession to join an interfaith service at the Luneta Park.

The procession will also be joined by members of the Protestant Churches in Metro Manila. (Jandel Posion)
