Forum to discuss economic reforms in peace negotiations

MANILA, March 31, 2011?The National Clergy Discernment Group is holding a Lenten forum aimed to shed light on the future of peace negotiations and its challenges under the Aquino government.

The forum will discuss the importance of the Comprehensive Agreement on Social and Economic Reforms (CASER) as an effective solution to put an end on the armed conflict in the Philippines.

CASER is second in the agenda of the peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front which resumed in Oslo, Norway last February 15-21, 2011.

The forum will likewise tackle the role of church people and the general public in achieving a just and lasting peace in the country.

Themed “The Pursuit for a Just and Lasting Peace: A Christian Imperative”, the Lenten gathering is slated on April 1, from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at De La Salle-College Saint Benilde, Taft Avenue Manila.

Among those expected to attend the forum include religious, priests, academe, students and representatives from various faiths.

A biblical-theological reflection will be given by Fr. Wilfredo Dulay, MJ, one of the convenors of National Clergy Discernment Group.

Representatives from the Negotiating Panels of the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) are invited to grace the event. (CBCPNews)
