15 parishes in Laguna launch mass protests vs RH Bill

SAN PABLO City, March 4, 2011 – As a prelude to the province-wide Walk for Life Rally which will take place on March 26 in San Pablo City, several parishes and vicariates are separately launching their preliminary mass protests against the Reproductive Health Bill on March 5 and March 8, respectively.

According to reports reaching the CBCP News, a dawn procession will be launched by seven parishes comprising the Holy Family Vicariate in San Pedro town and Alay Lakad and symposium in the parishes of Del Remedio and San Gabriel in San Pablo City on March 5.

Organizers in Del Remedio Parish said a prayerful walk would be made from a specific place towards the Parish Church area where a program would give way to a talk on the pros and cons of the RH Bill.

In San Gabriel Parish, hundreds of parishioners and students are expected to hear the talk of the former Director of the Family Life Ministry Fr. Eduardo Arupo on the positive and negative repercussions of the RH Bill.

Meanwhile, the Vicariate of Paete which comprises four towns and six parishes will also be launching a Walk for Life and prayer rally on March 8, Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.

Prosecutor George Dy of the Knights of Columbus and one of the organizers texted the CBCP News that a dawn procession which is spearheaded by the parish pastoral council, Knights of Columbus and the Family Life Ministry would take place from a specified assembly area and would culminate at an Open Space in the Holy Rosary Parish Church where an Exhortation Rally against the RH Bill would be held.

Likewise, 68 more parishes and vicariates are poised to launch their respective protest rallies in preparation to the Laguna-wide Walk for Life 2011 on March 26.

Meanwhile, for the purpose of spiritual renewal and to prepare Laguna priests and religious on various challenges in their respective parishes and ministries, the second batch of the San Pablo Clergy and religious of the Diocese of San Pablo led by Bishop Leo M. Drona are about to wind-up their Annual Holy Retreat in Tagaytay City starting February 28 until March 4.

The first batch of priests and religious’ retreat was held in the same venue on Valentine’s Day until February 18. Msgr. Chito Bernardo was the Retreat Master to both groups of retreatants.

There are a total of 197 members of the San Pablo Clergy and religious in the diocese according to the 2008-2009 Catholic Directory. (Fr. Romulo Ponte)
